Dartford
Adult Education at renovated boys school
Originally opened on 16th March 1931 as a local school for boys the building has seen many changes in patterns of education.
The expected subscription from each boy in 1933 was 2 shillings per term or five shillings for the year if paid within the first few weeks of the Autumn Term. It was also expected that this money was paid from the boys own pocket money!
Dartford West Boys School as it was then known was one of the first schools in the county to offer the new 'O' level examination for the 1953/54 academic year. The school was eventually closed in August 2000 but it has remained a school/education site with Westgate Primary School and now Kent Adult Education.
After renovations specifically designed to facilitate Adult Education in the Centre boasts a large state of the art Dance Studio, Beauty Salon, Complementary Therapy Suite and Craft Room. It also has an IT Suite, Art Studio, comfortable and clean classrooms for language, ESOL, maths and many others subjects.
