Family Learning courses are engagement courses, helping families move back into learning.

This course is funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and FREE to eligible learners*. Priority for places is given to new learners.

*To be eligible you must be able to answer ’yes’ to BOTH questions below:

1. Have been living in the UK or an EEA country continuously for at least 3 years prior to their learning start date?
And
2. Are you one of the following: A UK national OR An Irish national OR and EEA national with pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme?

If you are unable to answer yes to both questions, you may still be eligible. Please speak to a member of our team.


Learners can attend up to TWO Family Learning courses per academic year. Funding allows for one Parenting OR craft course AND one Family English, maths or Language course.


This course is for mothers and fathers (carers) and children aged 3/4 years. Adults can only attend with a child, will participate fully in the activity and supervise their children throughout.
Group size not to exceed 24, with no more than 2 children per adult.
Contact Partnership Manager/ Curriculum Leader if group exceeds specified sizes.

It is designed to:
Support interaction, provide quality time for families to have fun and learn together, strengthen relationships, build confidence and extend communication. Enable parents/carers to support their children to be school ready.

The families will extend their knowledge of the skills required for starting school.

How will I be taught?

There will be discussion and demonstration. You will have opportunities to discuss and ask questions - this is an interactive course with the Tutor present throughout.

What do I need to bring with me?

Pen and paper and coloured pencils or crayons.
Please wear old clothing or bring an apron as you may be using glue etc.

FEML (Family English, Maths and Language) courses.

It is your responsibility to ensure that by participating in classes and activities from Kent Adult Education, you will not exceed your and your family’s limits while performing such activity, and you will select the appropriate environment and level of task for your and your family’s skills and abilities.

You understand that in creative and physical activities you and your children will need to be suitably dressed, will need protect your work surface and be mindful of the correct Health & Safety processes. KAE is not responsible for damage to items in your house/home or persons.
