16 March 2020
Kent County Council has made the decision to close all of its Adult Education, Kent Training & Apprenticeships and Skills Plus Centres across the County, with effect from Friday 20th March 2020.
This decision has been made in order to comply with Government guidance to stop non-essential contact and to prioritise your health and safety as well as that of our staff.
This means that none of our classes will run from any of our physical buildings until further notice. During this time, however, there is much that we can continue to do to keep adult learning, vocational training and skills running within the County.
Some of our courses can be run “virtually”, that is via electronic devices and bespoke software. If you are a learner on courses such as Languages, Maths, Fitness, Creative Writing and much more, then we will be contacting you directly with information about how this can happen.
We will also be keeping our “Virtual Learning Environment” (Moodle) openly accessible. Our goal is to ensure that as many people as possible can continue their programme of study for as long as possible.
We are also fully committed to ensuring that as many learners as possible can complete their qualifications. In the case of GCSE’s, we will be guided by national advice. For other qualifications such as Functional Skills in English and Maths, we are currently exploring ways in which learners will be able to sit their exam in an appropriate setting. We will be providing details of how this can happen in the near future.
For people who are unable to complete their programme because of Centre Closure, we will offer an appropriate alternative.
Most of our teams are equipped to work from non-office, or non-centre-based locations and will continue to work during regular office hours with full access to emails, telephones and related materials.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, or a member of the CLS team.
Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding during this challenging time for all of us.
