Starting at just £30, an experience course lets you try a different topic each week. It could be one week watercolour and the next week acrylics, or first week yoga and the second week pilates.

Taster sessions are either free or charge a nominal fee (it's amazing what you can get for a pound!). Come along and see what it's all about. Have a go at self-defence, yoga, creative writing or one of hundreds of taster courses held throughout the county.

Course fees and payment

All courses will have a fee attached, but some courses are eligible for concessions, whilst others maybe completely funded by an external body.

Some courses may have additional costs for materials which can sometimes be purchased from your tutor. Examination fees are normally included in the cost of the course, but if the examination fee is published separately it must be paid in full and any concessions or discounts deducted from the cost of the course will not apply. This is usually because the examining body is a separate organisation with their own fees.

You can pay your course fees:

  • by debit or credit card (Switch, Visa or Mastercard),
  • by cheques made payable to Kent County Council, or
  • if the total cost of the course is more than £70.00, you can pay a 25% deposit and pay the rest in instalments.
  • Standing Orders will also depend on your Enrolment Date and the Course End Date and therefore if may not always be possible to pay for your Course by this method as we require sufficient time for the Standing Order Mandate to reach your Bank/Building Society and for ALL instalments to be paid and received before the Course End Date.

Terms and conditions

Students must abide by the regulations of Kent County Council and Kent Adult Education. Enrolling means a student is responsible for the whole cost of the course even if they do not finish (including outstanding balances).

The Skills Funding Agency require us to collect certain information about our students which you will be required to provide.

If for any reason we have to cancel a course any fees paid may be refunded - Students should contact their local centre for advice.

We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible and cannot return payments to students who withdraw from a course. You have 14 days to change your mind from the day you pay in full or make your first payment. After this time a refund is not available unless the course is cancelled by KAE.

Transfer between courses is sometimes possible. However, unless this is on the advice of Kent Adult Education, a £10 administration charge will be levied.

Concessions and funding

Depending on your circumstances you may be entitled to a concession or discount on selected courses. To see if you are eligible download our concessions guide.

Learners over 60 are invited to become Club60 members which entitles you to discounts and rewards as you learn.

In addition, learners over 60 may be entitled to further reductions (depending on personal circumstances) on accredited courses with a course code ending PF or FF.

Students of any age enrolling on one of these courses will be expected to:

  • attend on a regular basis
  • undertake work outside the classroom
  • complete the course

You will need to provide documentary evidence to prove your eligibility for a discount. This must be done within 14 days of your enrolment or you will be invoiced for the full amount.

Please bring your documents into one of our enrolment centres or post them to us along with your name, address, contact information and course details.

Additional support and access funds may also be available if you cannot meet the cost of your course. Funding is limited and we cannot guarantee its availability, but if awarded can be put towards your course fee, travel, books or childcare. Funding must be applied for before you enrol – speak to one of our staff who can provide you with further information and an application form.

A specific selection of courses are available at a reduced price for patients referred by their GP or health professional as an incentive to make lifestyle changes. Courses run between four and ten weeks, and are discounted by up to 50%.
