The aim of this one day course is to give those who have little or no previous experience of printmaking a sound introduction to the fascinating and versatile technique of lino cutting. In an encouraging, supportive environment students will be shown how to create their own designs and taught how to use cutting tools safely and effectively. You will print using water based inks and will be shown how to use a reduction method to add detail and interest to your art work. The techniques taught, although highly effective, require little specialised equipment and once mastered can be carried out at home. A press is not required.
By the end of the course you should be able to
• Understand the principles of relief printmaking
• Select from resources to create your own design
• Make a printing block and and print from it
• Work to health and safety guidelines.
