This course will be held at St Faiths Adult Education Centre, Maidstone
Working directly from our portrait model and guided by the tutor, the day will start with a series of short warm up drawing exercises and progress towards the afternoon to a longer pose, to enable students to embark on a more developed drawing or painting. The intended focus will be on the practise and development of drawing/painting skills observing the model and creating a " portrait".
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Caroline Clough
Caroline Clough has a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art. She has exhibited and sold paintings in galleries in London and the South East and has taught painting and drawing with Kent Adult Education since 1986. She currently works mainly with watercolour, mixed media and acrylic and enjoys experimenting and working with a range of subject matter.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
There will be one to one guidance, group critiques and self assessment.
What do I need to bring with me?
Drawing boards and easels will be available for use. Charcoal and paper can be purchased in class. Students are advised to bring with them basic drawing equipment such as graphite pencils 2B - 8B, putty rubber, sharpener, masking tape or large bulldog clips, sketch book, and additional drawing materials of their choice.
Depending upon previous experience, some students may wish to paint for the sustained study, if so please bring painting materials (eg watercolour, oils ) together with appropriate support ( eg prepared canvas or paper) . Please contact the centre in advance to talk to the tutor if you would like to discuss further.

What do I need to join the course
This course is for students with some drawing/painting experience who would like to develop their skills through guidance and the practical experience of working directly from the portrait model.
It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.
