Are you new to bookkeeping, or do you already work in bookkeeping or accounting or wish to develop your business support skills? Then this 'AAT Access Award In Bookkeeping Level 1' course is for you.

This qualification will introduce you to bookkeeping. It aims to provide you with a fundamental understanding of the principles of single entry bookkeeping in the context of a manual process.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

- Develop skills to carry out routine bookkeeping processes;
- Develop underpinning knowledge of bookkeeping principles.

**PLEASE NOTE: In order to complete the course and gain a certificate, you will need to pass one computer-based assessment. The exam is likely to take place on 15th March but please be available on 22nd March in case of unavoidable course alterations.**

**PLEASE NOTE: You must register with AAT in order to take the exam and gain the certificate. You will need to pay a qualification fee (£40) directly to AAT in order to register for their exams. You will need to complete registration by the third week of the course. The fee covers this qualification for a one year period. Registration provides you with access to online learning materials which will support you with your study and a monthly magazine.**

**PLEASE NOTE: As this is an accredited course, regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2.5 hours of home study per week are required from you when enrolling on this course. You may be removed from the course if you do not regularly attend. You are advised to read the course syllabus on the AAT website prior to enrolling on the course.**

How will I be taught?

The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere with students who attend regularly and complete home study as required. Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to support you in achieving your goals. Your individual needs will be taken into consideration.

Throughout the course, your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress towards the requirements of the qualification.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.

You will need a calculator (not one built into a mobile phone), a notepad, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, highlighter and correction fluid or tape.

What can I do next?

This course can enable you to progress onto the 'AAT Access Award in Accounting Software Level 1' course. This course will enable you to apply your bookkeeping skills to a computerised accounts process on Sage Accounts software.

In addition, this course can enable you to progress onto a Level 2 qualification such as the 'AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping Level 2' course. Specialist advice is available from your tutor to help you identify the best course for you. Please check for course details.

What do I need to join the course

Students interested in the AAT courses will be required to complete an initial assessment prior to enrolling on the course, to ensure that this is the most suitable course for you. You can contact a local adult education centre and arrange for a link to the online assessment to be e-mailed to you.

You will need access to a computer/laptop to attend the course in the unlikely event that it is necessary to move the course online. You will need basic computing skills to attend this course as it is online and the final exam is computer-based. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/activities and take part in group discussions.

This course is aimed at those who are new to the skills and knowledge required of bookkeepers. It is suitable for students studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping roles and for those who are already employed in bookkeeping and/or data processing roles.
