This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. When it is considered safe to do so, in the new year, we will be looking at moving this course from online to the Corn Exchange.
If you already work in bookkeeping or accounting and have previously undertaken a Level 1 qualification then this 'AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping Level 2 - Fast Track' course is for you.
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Develop practical accountancy skills in the double-entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes;
- Check transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers and calculate sales invoices and credit notes;
- Carry-out bank reconciliations and trial balances;
- Explain the relationships between various accounting records.
**PLEASE NOTE: In order to complete the course and gain a certificate, you will need to pass two computer-based assessments.**
**PLEASE NOTE: You must register with AAT in order to take the exam and gain the certificate. You will need to pay a qualification fee (£48) directly to AAT in order to register for their exams. You will need to complete registration by the third week of the course. The fee covers this qualification for a one year period. Registration provides you with access to online learning materials which will support you with your study and a monthly magazine.**
**PLEASE NOTE: As this is an accredited course, regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2.5 hours of home study per week are required from you when enrolling on this course. Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Gerald Fitzjohn
Gerald Fitzjohn is an experienced tutor who has been working in the accountancy industry for over 30 years. Gerald is a member of the ATT for tax accountants. He has been using Sage accounting software since its inception in 1980.
How will I be taught?
The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere with students who attend regularly and complete home study as required.
Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to support you in achieving your goals. Your individual needs will be taken into consideration.
Throughout the course, your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress towards the requirements of the qualification.
What do I need to have with me?
Your tutor will advise you at the start of the course.
You will need a calculator (not one built into a mobile phone), a notepad, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, highlighter and correction fluid or tape.
What can I do next?
This course can enable you to progress onto the 'AAT Foundation Award in Accounting Software Level 2' course. This course will enable you to apply your double-entry bookkeeping skills to a computerised accounts process.

What do I need to join the course
This course is aimed at those who have previously attended a Level 1 manual bookkeeping course. If you have attended a manual bookkeeping course with another provider, then you should complete an initial assessment prior to enrolling on the course, to ensure that this is the most suitable course for you. You can contact a local adult education centre and arrange for a link to the online assessment to be e-mailed to you.
If you have not completed a manual bookkeeping qualification previously, then the Level 1 course would be recommended,
You will need basic computing skills to attend this course as it is online and the exam is computer-based. You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions, read handouts/activities and take part in group discussions.
This course is aimed at those who are developing the skills and knowledge required of bookkeepers. It is suitable for students studying in preparation for employment in bookkeeping roles and for those who are already employed in bookkeeping and/or data processing roles.
