This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
When it is considered safe to do so, we will be looking at moving this course from online to the Sevenoaks Centre
Want to understand why Abstract art is considered important in the world of art and develop for yourself how you go about making abstract pieces of work this course will help you do this. You will be given starting points by the tutor by looking at Artists work and creating your own drawings and paintings developed from the starting point. There is no judgment of criticism of your work and out of this will come an understanding Abstraction is not what it seems when you look further.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Produce a body of work based on the projects set during the day
Draw and paint subjects derived from a variety of sources including landscape and memory
Improve your knowledge of abstract art and of art in general and demonstrate this through your projects
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines

About the Tutor: Liz Chapman
Liz Chapman M.A. Fine Art. Cert.Ed.
After studying at Reigate School of Art and Design, Liz worked in architectural design and draughtsmanship, before moving on to book illustration. Since 1992 she has worked part time as an Art Tutor and part time as an Artist, and spent the last 3years in the north west coast of Scotland painting landscapes.She taught initially at West Kent College (where she also achieved a Cert.Ed), then Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells Adult education Centre and now Sevenoaks. Liz achieved a Masters Degree in Fine Art at Brighton University in 2004, and has exhibited nationally.
How will I be taught?
This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and in interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking, listening, writing in the chat box). This measure is dictated by circumstances
You will, through discussion and negotiation with the tutor, develop an idea of your personal learning outcomes and will work towards these. The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including instruction, demonstration, practice, experimentation and discovery, video and slide shows, one-to-one and group discussion.

You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to your preferred medium.

What do I need to join the course
Be interested in what Abstract art is and want to learn more about the subject and produce some of your own work without judgement.
It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
