If you would like to learn the skills of how to use acrylic paint and are new to this media or need a refresher course on acrylic painting techniques then this the course for you. We will cover fundamental techniques whilst encouraging an experimental and expressive approach to painting, working from observation and secondary sources, such as the work of other artists.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Make choices about subject matter and composition in observational sketches
Create form through painting
Use acrylic paint and mediums in varying consistencies
Use different methods of building up the layers of a painting including glazing and impasto
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
There is no set ‘homework’, but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.
There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Camille Serisier
Camille Serisier is a visual artist who works across a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and video. As a National Undergraduate Scholar, Camille completed her undergraduate degree with First Class Honours at the Australian National University (Australia). She went onto complete additional training at the New York Studio School (USA), with the generous assistance of the Vera List Travelling Scholarship. Her work has been displayed internationally in galleries and museums, hard copy and digital publications, as well as in the form of temporary and permanent public art. In addition, she has a wealth of professional experience in the arts industry, having worked as a scenic painter for companies such as Opera Australia and as a curator for organisations such as the Museum of Australian Democracy. As an educator Camille has lectured at the Queensland College of Art (Australia), the University of Canberra (Australia) and been a visiting scholar at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (USA). Born in Australia Camille now lives and works in the United Kingdom.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. You will need to provide your own materials. Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along to the first session anything you have already that you think will be useful.
