This Art course covers painting techniques using acrylic paints. You will learn about colour mixing and a variety of methods to apply the paint, both diluted and straight from the tube, such as layering, glazing, scumbling, sgraffito, etc. There will be a variety of subject matter throughout the course including Still Life. You will be encouraged to look at other artists whether historical or contemporary to support your paintings.
By the of the course you will be able to:
Demonstrate colour mixing through your paintings
Use 4 or more different Acrylic painting techniques in your work
Produce al least 3 complete paintings one of which is a Still Life
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Liz Chapman

Liz Chapman M.A. Fine Art. Cert.Ed.
After studying at Reigate School of Art and Design, Liz worked in architectural design and draughtsmanship, before moving on to book illustration. Since 1992 she has worked part time as an Art Tutor and part time as an Artist, and spent the last 3years in the north west coast of Scotland painting landscapes.She taught initially at West Kent College (where she also achieved a Cert.Ed), then Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells Adult education Centre and now Sevenoaks. Liz achieved a Masters Degree in Fine Art at Brighton University in 2004, and has exhibited nationally.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
Through one to one tuition, group discussion and self assessment against the Learning Outcomes on your Individualised Learning Plan, ILP.

What do I need to have with me?

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along to the first session anything you have already that you think will be useful.

What do I need to join the course

Students with all levels of experience who would like to explore painting using acrylic paints, the course assumes no experience of working in acrylic paint..

You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
