Art and Nature - Keeping a Nature Journal

Learn the key ingredients for creating and keeping a nature journal. By drawing objects from nature you will create pages to help you to observe the world around you. The course will include: what materials to use, how to compose a page, basic drawing techniques, adding colour to the page, using a variety of media, how to make observations and how to use your journal to put pictures and words together.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists to add to your journal of ideas and drawings.

What do I need to bring with me?

An A4 sketchbook or notebook of good quality paper either ring bound or stitched and a variety of pencils both coloured and graphite. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

What do I need to join the course

An interest in producing drawing from nature to create a record of your ideas and thoughts for projects you may go onto produce in paint, textiles or embroidery.
All students are welcome on the course.
