This Botanical course will to teach you how to observe and produce beautiful drawings of plants, flowers and leaves with more complex use of colour and plants. Observational skills will be developed throughout and students will learn techniques for painting in watercolour.
The tutor for this course will guide you through:
What to look for to help you when making your drawings
Consider the composition of the image on the paper
Colour matching your palette to your plant or flower
Drawing and the use of line for accuracy
Help with the further understanding of plant biology
This is a very considered Art that can help you produce drawings to be proud of.
The sessions will be tutor led, to enable you to build your knowledge and skills in a progressive structured fashion leading to the opportunity for more self directed work as the course progresses.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.

What do I need to have with me?

You should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. Please bring along any materials/equipment that might be appropriate. The tutor will discuss what materials you should buy at the first lesson and which watercolour paints are the best value for painting in.

What do I need to join the course

An interest in producing beautiful and accurate drawings of plants and flowers and have some or no experience of Botanical Drawing.

Before the lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
