Calligraphy - An Introduction to the Celtic Hand

This course is held at Ashford Adult Education Centre at Ashford Gateway.

On this course, you will be introduced to Calligraphy skills and techniques and the art of beautiful writing. This course will cover pen nib, ink and the correct paper to use. You will learn the basic form of letters and develop an understanding of the use of a broad edged pen, ruling up writing lines, design and layout. The course will also introduce the alphabet from a model of a particular script.

There is no qualification for this course.

If your course is held at Ashford Gateway in the evening, please note the following:- The main door to the building closes at 6pm Mon-Wed and 8pm on Thurs. The building can only be accessed via the side door which is situated to the left of the main entrance at the corner of the building. There is an entry system via a buzzer.

How will I be taught?

There will be individual and group tuition and demonstrations.
There will be individual and group feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you already have some calligraphy tools and materials, please bring them along. If not, the tutor will supply what you need for the session - please pay the tutor direct for these, estimated cost £2 - £3. If you already have a ruler (30cm or preferably longer), a pencil and eraser, a small watercolour brush, palette, water jar, colour pencils, please bring them along.
