Write that Story!
Have you got a story in your head that you’ve never quite got around to writing? Who is your main character? How much do you know about them? How much would your reader need to know about them? Where will your story start – at the beginning? In the middle? At the end? Where is it set? When is it set?
When will you start writing that story?
This course will help you to:
• Discover your voice as a writer
• Develop your character(s)
• Develop your storyline and narrative structure
• Recognise and write for your audience

How will I be taught?

Through writing exercises you will practise writing skills and cover topics appropriate to life writing. You will learn techniques for writing by reading autobiographical examples, and through discussion and practice. A safe and supportive learning environment will enable you to give and receive feedback about your writing. You will discover how to create a ‘memory record’, where to start and how to order your work and also how to stay inspired.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

The minimum requirement is pen and paper. To get more from the course, access to a computer and printer is useful.

What can I do next?
