An introduction to the art of Middle Eastern belly dance. Learn basic steps, body and hand movements and also cover posture, core moves, hip isolations and a veil dance .
By the end of the course, you will:
Have demonstrated correct posture for Egyptian belly dance;
Will be able to identify and name 10 belly dance moves;
Will have learnt how to hold the veil and dance core moves with this prop.
And had a fun time while exercising to music and using your whole body.
This course will be tutor led through an online portal where the tutor will give advice and guidance and show videos of techniques and ideas to be explored. You will need access to a PC, laptop or tablet to be able to work with the tutor and other students. Access will be sent by the tutor before the course starts.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angela Wooi
Angela Wooi is an artist and illustrator. She graduated from Wimbledon School of Art and UCA with a BA Hons in Fine Art.
An award winning artist, she works in mixed media, using drawing painting and collage and also designs costumes . Her background in theatre design and creative direction gives her a unique edge within her creativity. She is a founder member of the arts cooperative Making Art Work based in Maidstone. Her teaching style is structured but fun, challenging and exciting .
How will I be taught?
Your tutor will demonstrate exercises and routines and will talk you through all your movements. Activities will be adapted to suit individual needs and capabilities. You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire before the start of the course which must be given to your tutor at your class.
What do I need to have with me?
You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Formal trousers, skirts or dress are not suitable for this activity. Circle skirts can be worn. A scarf to tie round your hips is advantageous but not essential. You should wear shoes with a soft sole (ballet pumps are best or dance trainers), alternatively you could dance barefoot. Sandals, boots or any footwear with a high heel are not recommended. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately.
Please bring water and avoid eating one and a half hours prior to exercising and a light lunch for the break in the course.

What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome, but you will need basic mobility, Middle Eastern belly dance is a gentle form of exercise that uses all parts of the body and help with mobility.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before the lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
