This course will be held at Ashford Adult Education Centre in Ashford Gateway.
This is an advanced course. Using oil and/or acrylic paints, mixed media and a range of drawing media, you will build on previous knowledge and experience. Working from a variety of subject matter, you will be taught techniques and the underpinning formal elements (composition, perspective, scale, colour, etc) according to you needs. References will be made to relevant historical and contemporary artists, and there will be continuous individual and group appraisal.

About the Tutor: Stephen Richard Thompson
Stephen Thompson BA Hons Fine Art, is a highly respected artist and teacher, with many years of teaching experience across all education sectors, including Head of Art at the English College in Prague. Stephen continues to exhibit work regularly and maintains an active presence in the Folkestone Art scene.
How will I be taught?
Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
You will have the opportunity to give and receive feedback with your peers and tutor.
What do I need to bring with me?
You need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please bring any materials and equipment you may need.
What can I do next?
Our longer courses help to prepare students to apply for Access to Art and Design foundation courses or relevant Art, Craft and Design Degree courses. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to join the course
For students with previous experience who wish to develop their skills and direction in their painting using a range of mediums and approaches. This course is not suitable for beginners.
