The Advanced projects course is the third in the sequence of photography courses available at both Canterbury and Sittingbourne centres. It is aimed at students who already have a high level of technical ability but who are looking to engage with the subject of photography. The course covers advanced technical applications such as flash photography, zone metering (as well as other advanced metering techniques), focusing modes, RAW file conversion, photoshop elements and printing techniques (although it should be noted that students will not be printing at the centres). It also looks at photographic theory and the history of photography in order to better equip students with the skills and understanding necessary to communicate meaning through their work.
The course takes the form of a single, self-directed photographic project. Students get guidance and feedback from the tutor as well as other students during the sessions but are encouraged to undertake a project that is of their own design.
During the course you will be exposed to a number of photographers and their work and encouraged to analyse and discuss this work, thereby strengthening your ability to critique form, style and meaning.

Please note:- If you are storing any data/images on transferrable data devices (memory sticks, portable hard drives, etc), please make sure that you have back-up files saved at home and when removing devices have followed the 'safely removing hardware' guidelines on the PC.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- use your camera more confidently
- understand more about functions and settings
- use photography techniques to take better pictures
- use more functions in the software to manipulate your pictures
There will be a little 'homework' after some sessions, e.g. taking photos to use in the next session, but you will also probably want to practise what you have learned.
There is no qualification for this course.
