This is an advanced level art course in which students will use still-life, portraiture and landscape to study how selected artists use colour, composition and application. You will then apply aspects of your findings to your own work. Projects will be set which allow you to interpret them in accordance with your own ideas and interests. This course is designed for students who want to develop their own projects and find out how creative they can be. There will be themed based projects with skills and techniques that will be developed within them.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and craftspeople and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance personal skills.
What do I need to bring with me?
Any materials you already have paints, pencils and an A3 sketchbook would be a good starting point. The tutor will introduce the projects and how you develop these will be based around your own use of materials. An apron is essential for any Art course to protect your clothes.
What can I do next?
Further higher level Art courses or an Art History course to support your learning in the art room.
What do I need to join the course
Be confident in your painting and creative work and like a challenge to see what you can do. It is not a course for a beginner or for those looking for a painting skills course as the course is led by the individual. If you unsure if this is the course for you please contact the Curriculum Leader in the centre who will be able to advise you further about the course.
