This Art course is designed to improve drawing skills and provides a wide range of approaches to using watercolour and mixed media. The emphasis is on developing an individual approach from past experience if any. Themes will be suggested which will concentrate on studying from observation but some projects will involve working from imagination or developing work in an abstract direction.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Caroline Clough

Caroline Clough has a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art. She has exhibited and sold paintings in galleries in London and the South East and has taught painting and drawing with Kent Adult Education since 1986. She currently works mainly with watercolour, mixed media and acrylic and enjoys experimenting and working with a range of subject matter.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.

You will receive one to one feedback throughout the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own ‘shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
