This course is designed to teach you the basic techniques to drawing and painting and help develop your confidence and skills through a range of weekly tutored lessons.
You will explore a range of exciting materials, colour creation, light and shade, as well as artistic styles, applying techniques and tips to landscape, still life and personal projects. Materials you could use within your projects are Watercolour, Oil and Acrylic paints, charcoal, crayons and pastels.
This course will be informative, challenging and fun.
By the end of the course you will:
Demonstrate an understand the colour wheel and mix colours appropriately in your paintings
Produce a still life drawing of a group of coloured objects
Use at least 4 different materials to produce sketches and drawings
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
This course will start being delivered online. Once restrictions are lifted, a decision as to if the course stays online will be made in discussion with those learners enrolled, the tutor and the ongoing viability of the course, in the hope a consensus can be reached.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
What do I need to have with me?
You should have an A3 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please have them with you but please wait for the tutor's advice before buying any equipment.

What do I need to join the course
An interest and enthusiasm in learning to draw and paint - everyone is welcome to join this course, no experience is needed.
It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
