Students will further develop their skills and techniques in a variety of media., Traditional and experimental drawing and painting techniques will be explored, including mixed media approaches. , By working from both direct observation and from photographic references and sketches, you will encounter a variety of interesting and stimulating subject matter - landscape, still life, natural forms, etc. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate., By the end of the course you should be able to:, - work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter., - make drawings as studies for paintings and to explore and establish compositions., - select and use the appropriate drawing and painting media, materials and equipment., - mix colours using basic colour theory., - use a range of water based painting techniques, e.g. washes, glazes, drybrush, wet in wet, impasto, etc., - recognise the styles and techniques of selected fine artists., - work to health and safety guidelines., There is no homework requirement for this course., , ,
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angelo Pizzigallo
Angelo Pizzigallo is a practising artist who exhibits his work locally and in London galleries. Primarily a painter using water-based media, he uses vibrant colours and textures to create layered pictures, often of nocturnal scenes and figures in interiors. He also sometimes incorporates printed and found materials, calling it 'mixed up media'! A very experienced tutor, he has taught for Kent Adult Education for more than 10 years.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook, to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage their own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills., To ensure that students' learning needs are met, the tutor will work with the student to complete the required Individual Learning Plan. , As a starting point, all Creative subjects will have the following Course Outcomes, - Successfully demonstrate techniques/skills., - Use appropriate media, materials and processes., - Use work of others to inspire own work., - Demonstrate an understanding of relevant Health and Safety issues., These outcomes will be the basis of all learning. Additional Personal Learning Outcomes can be negotiated with your tutor to better meet your individual needs.,
What do I need to have with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
