This course has started, but it may still be possible to join it. Please call 03000 41 22 22* and ask to be put through to the Centre where the course is running
The course is for students in the early stages of learning English, who already have some of the language. It is not for complete beginners. You can already understand and use familiar expressions and basic phrases. You can respond if spoken to slowly. You can write letters and numbers on a line with the correct spacing. You can read simple short texts on familiar topics and obtain information from signs and symbols.
You will learn basic practical English for everyday life and for working in the UK and you will make progress with the basic grammar of English. The main focus of the class will be reading and writing but you will also have the chance to improve your speaking, listening skills, especially through your Individual Learning Plan and homework.
This course will be delivered at Dover Discovery Centre from September but may delivered online following any Government guidance on Covid 19. Your tutor will keep you informed of any possible changes with plenty of notice.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Helen Dixon
Helen Dixon is a qualified ESOL tutor who has worked in Adult Education for many years. With a wealth of experience in delivering to groups of all levels and nationalities, she provides in-depth learning and self-study for all learners, providing information and guidance on such topics as initial assessment, examinations and extra support.
How will I be taught?
You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups or pairs. This allows the tutor to attend to individual needs as well as to direct the learning of the group as a whole. Homework will be an essential part of the course.
An individual learning plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor. You will have tutorials with your tutor when you will be able to discuss your progress.
Additionally, your work will be regularly marked by your tutor who will give you oral/written feedback.
What do I need to bring with me?
Dictionary, ring binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen.
What can I do next?
Learners can progress to ESOL Entry 2 or Entry 3.
