Have you thought about taking a DNA test but are unsure where to start? Or perhaps you have already tested and want to gain a deeper understanding of the results to assist you in your family history research? This course will advise you on where to test, how much to pay and will explain what the results mean and how to utilise them to grow to your family tree.
This course will enable you to:
• Identify which DNA test and test provider best suits your interests and budget
• Know what to expect from your initial DNA test results
• Understand your results more deeply and use them to help plot possible relationships to your genetic matches
How will I be taught?
Tutor presentations will show DNA test results from Ancestry and FamilyTreeDNA, group discussion and discussion of individual examples for those who wish to share them.
During this day course your tutor will feedback to you and check your understanding. You will also complete an end of course evaluation..
What do I need to bring with me?
A notepad and pen. You may also want to bring some family documents and research examples with you.

What do I need to join the course
Anyone with an interest in genealogy and DNA
The course is divided into two parts:
-Ancestry Workshop - Using the Ancestry website (subscription required)- 2 weeks
-DNA & Genealogy - 3 weeks
The course is for everybody although it may be best suited to those who have made an initial start on researching their family tree and are thinking of taking a DNA test either for general interest or to assist in their family history research. For those who have tested already this course will enable you to understand your results more deeply and make better use of them in your family history research.
