Do you want to be able to use your French in a range of real life situations? This French Intermediate course is for you. You will benefit from exchanging with a supportive tutor and others as you practise speaking and enjoy learning the language. Successful students will be able to:
• Describe (people, places, situations, events etc) using the present, past or future tense
• Give and follow specific instructions
• Express an opinion and ideas in taking part in discussion
• Make comparisons
• Express an opinion
• Listen and respond to information from a range of sources (telephone messages, news headlines/public announcements, instructions, conversations)
• Deal with emergencies, problems and complaints
Grammar will be expanded. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using present, future and some past tenses. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self study including the use of on-line resources.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' s starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

There will be an opportunity to set up a follow on course if enough students want to continue in the summer, after which the next appropriate follow-on course is an Intermediate Plus course. The tutor or the Curriculum Leader will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
