Do you want to speak French more fluently and build on your conversational skills as well as be able to gain a deeper cultural understanding? This Intermediate Plus Consolidation course is for you. You will benefit from being in a classroom, exchanging face to face with your supportive tutor and other students as you practise speaking in French and enjoying learning the language.
By the end of the course successful students should be able to:
- Communicate on a wider range of topics and be able to extract details accurately from various sources
- Obtain information from complex texts and deal with topics of a familiar/unfamiliar nature
- Making hypothesis using the conditional
- Start expressing attitudes and emotions using the subjunctive
- Start to use colloquial expressions and appropriate style of language in conversations
Grammar gaps will be covered as needed. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.
How will I be taught?
The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (ex role-play and games). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. You will record your starting point on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and set targets. You will revisit regularly during the course to monitor and record your progress. Tutors will feedback orally on homework.
What do I need to have with me?
The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.
What can I do next?
There is a short “Intermediate Plus - Summer School” to follow-up and reinforce learning. Please enrol at least one week in advance to ensure the viability of your course. After this, the next appropriate follow-on course is an Advanced course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
What do I need to join the course
For anyone who has the knowledge of the tenses and basic structure of the language and needs fluency and conversation practice.
This course follows on from our French intermediate Plus 2019-20 but is not a strict repeat of the course. It is a consolidation and expansion course for Intermediate Plus learners. The course also welcomes new students with French at Intermediate Plus level and who want to consolidate before moving to Advanced level. New and returning students are welcome.
Students need to have completed a French Intermediate course or have studied the language for approximately 300 hours or completed French GCSE (A/C grades) and can speak confidently in predictable everyday situations.
If you are unsure, please carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk or in our Centres. The assessment provides a score to help you chose the best course for you. If still unsure, please speak to us or to a Curriculum Leader.
