This course aims to build a solid foundation of knowledge for playing guitar from beginner's level. Students will play simple pieces of music up to and including grade 1 level. The course will also cover some music theory, sight reading and techniques for playing guitar.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Play technical exercises (including scales) at beginners level.
Play pieces of music (individual, duet, ensemble) at beginners level.
Understand and apply music theory at beginners level.
Sight read music at beginners level.
To benefit fully from this course, students are advised to practice the exercises and pieces in their own time.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: James Rowdon
James Rowdon was born in Dorset and studied both jazz and classical styles of guitar. He obtained a degree in contemporary music from Canterbury Christ Church University and takes great pride in seeing his students succeed on the guitar. James performs frequently throughout South East Kent in jazz and afrobeat ensembles, as well as performing solo classical guitar at local events.
How will I be taught?
Students will be taught both as a group and one to one, with opportunities to perform and practice individually, in duets and as an ensemble. The tutor will give detailed instructions and demonstrations.
What do I need to bring with me?
You will need to bring your own guitar to class.
What can I do next?
Students can progress to higher grade levels if required. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome to join this course. No previous experience or knowledge is required.
