This course will be delivered online. You will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as you would in the classroom (speaking and listening). This measure is dictated by circumstances.

This course aims to expand a learner's knowledge of the guitar and its repertoire. Students will learn new pieces for guitar while simultaneously widening their knowledge of the key composers for the instrument. The course will also cover relevant music theory and performance techniques.

By the end of the course you should be able to:
Play technical exercises (including scales) at appropriate level.
Play pieces of music (individual, duet, ensemble) at appropriate level.
Understand and apply music theory at appropriate level.
Sight read music at appropriate level.

To benefit fully from this course, students are advised to practice the exercises and pieces in their own time.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: James Rowdon

James Rowdon was born in Dorset and studied both jazz and classical styles of guitar. He obtained a degree in contemporary music from Canterbury Christ Church University and takes great pride in seeing his students succeed on the guitar. James performs frequently throughout South East Kent in jazz and afrobeat ensembles, as well as performing solo classical guitar at local events.

How will I be taught?

Students will be taught both as a group and one to one, with opportunities to perform and practice individually, in duets and as an ensemble. The tutor will give detailed instructions and demonstrations.

You will need to bring your own guitar to class.

Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click. What can I do next?

Students can progress to higher grade levels if required. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
