This Try Italian Conversation course aims to give you the opportunity to sample of the longer course that is about the consolidation of your knowledge of the language and culture through enjoyable and interesting interaction. A range of different topics will be introduced from everyday life and daily news using articles from TV, radio, internet and newspapers covering topics such as: education, environment, transport, science, sport, art, etc.
Suggestions and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the course. You will develop language accuracy and fluency in a range of everyday situations at a more complex level and increase your confidence in applying the present, past and future tenses.
By the end of the course you should be able to: - communicate on a wide range of topics and be able to extract detailed information from various sources (newspaper and magazine articles, telephone messages/conversations audio/visual resources) - deal with topics of a familiar/unfamiliar nature with the help of a dictionary. You will revise and expand previously studied grammar including present and past tenses (perfect/imperfect/pluperfect), future tense, conditional/subjunctive mood in set phrases, relative clauses and pronouns.
You will gain an insight into the culture of the country where the language is spoken.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Anna Laila Pace
Anna Laila is an experienced tutor with a passion for languages, art, fashion, food and wines.
She worked in the food and wine sector for several years where she learned much about wine appreciation as well as commercial aspects such as import and distribution.
She also worked in the fashion industry in Italy and London where she was the account manager to a well-known designer and was able to further her interest in the creative process.
She has taught French, Italian and English abroad and since moving to Tunbridge Wells has been teaching for Kent Adult Education
How will I be taught?
This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and in interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking, listening, writing in the chat box). This measure is dictated by circumstances and the course will be delivered back in the classroom as soon as possible. The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening). Students may converse in pairs or groups, with participants of different levels and skills with the aim to encourage everyone to contribute and progress. Pronunciation is an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. These will be revisited at the end of the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will give verbal feedback.
What do I need to bring with me?
Students can bring a pen and paper but the aim is to practice speaking.

For those who have either completed Beginners Plus courses or previous Intermedaite ones and want to reinforce their learning before moving to a higher level. Or if you have GCSE (D/E grades) or have studied the language for approximately 100/140 hours and who can express themselves and understand simple information relating to personal, work or social matters.
For anybody who has attended one of our Beginners Plus or intermediate courses and/or is looking to improve the practical speaking and listening skills needed to cope with a range of real life situations more complex than those at Beginners Plus level.
