This is a course for everybody who would like to know more about Italy and the Renaissance in the Italian courts.
Our Italian passionate tutor will lead you to discover the artistic patronage bestowed by the five great secular courts of Mantua, Naples, Milan, Ferrara and Urbino. She shows how the princes who ruled these cities would promote their legitimacy and authority by commissioning artists — from Pisanello to Leonardo da Vinci — to design, paint and sculpt a variety of artworks to redesign these cities, and bring to them honour, solace and pleasure.

How will I be taught?

This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and in interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking, listening, writing in the chat box). This measure is dictated by circumstances and the course will be delivered back in the classroom as soon as possible. The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Italian culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted in italian and English. There will be various activities following the tutor's inputs.
Students are invited to research and bring their own material for discussion.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. You will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise not to buy anything until after the first session.

What do I need to join the course

You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor will send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
