Life Drawing and Painting

The course will be exploring the human figure with a series of drawn studies in various graphic mediums. , Each student will complete a life drawing increasing the pose time undertaking accurate observation and speed of line., Each student will use tone and shape to explore positive and negative shapes, volumes and spatial relationships., Each student will use pencil for measuring and proportion., Each student will make use of Mixed Media including ink, torn and cut paper, coloured sheets, newspaper and magazine working on larger scales., Use a work journal to research and develop project ideas., Select and use appropriate equipment, processes and materials., Work to health and safety guidelines. The course will incorporate the theory of life drawing

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Christopher Bone

Christopher Bone MA Fine Art. Chris established a studio in Folkestone in 1985 and has since developed a reputation as an accomplished painter, exhibiting regular in Kent and London. He teaches the principles and techniques of drawing and painting in all mediums, making reference to the history of art as appropriate.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students need to provide their own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements - tutors will advise accordingly. Some centres have their own shops where you are able to buy some materials at competitive prices. Please bring any materials and equipment you have that may be appropriate.

What can I do next?

Our longer courses help to prepare students to apply for Access to Art and Design foundation courses or relevant Art, Craft and Design Degree courses. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.

What do I need to join the course

This course is for beginners or improvers who are interested in a range of fine art media and processes, and aim to develop their skill levels.
