This Introduction to Indian Head Massage course will be delivered face-to-face from Canterbury Adult Education Centre. In it you will learn some basic indian head massage techniques using aromatherapy oils.
The course will cover the health and safety aspects of indian head massage, including contraindications to massage, and you will also learn an indian head massage routine which you can use on friends and family. The course will involve some undressing of the upper body, as well as practising the massage routines others in the class.
You will learn about the benefits of massage in reducing stress and tension.
By the end of the course students will:
- Be able to perform a basic indian head massage routine
- Be able to identify and discuss the benefits and contraindications associated with indian head massage
- Understand the health and safety aspects of indian head massage and how to overcome these.
How will I be taught?
Some undressing is involved which is handled sensitively protecting students' modesty.
You will work in pairs to give and receive indian head massage treatments
Teaching methods will include demonstration, lecture input, discussion and time to practice what is being taught and for question and answer sessions. Our Complementary therapy courses are not intended as treatments in themselves.
Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensure that you achieve your full potential. The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where there will be opportunities to practise practical skills and ask questions throughout.

What do I need to bring with me?
• Towels - 1 large towel or a sarong for modesty; 1 large towel to cover the massage couch for your comfort.
• Small cushion to support your head if desired
• Hair band or clip to keep hair off shoulders during massage for those with long hair
• Wet wipes may also be useful but hand washing facilities will be available
• Short nails would be preferable
• Notebook and pen
What can I do next?
To further massage courses with Kent Adult Education or other providers. Possible progression to the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to join the course
No previous knowledge or experience is required. This massage introductory course is suitable for any adult who is interested in learning how to massage themselves, family or friends to promote a feeling of wellbeing.
This course is not be suitable for pregnant women.
