Massage - Introduction to Massage for Stress Reduction

This massage course will be delivered face-to-face from Canterbury Adult Education centre. In it you will learn techniques such as swedish massage, aromatherapy, and deep tissue massage all of which are known to help alleviate stress and reduce tension in the body. Receiving a massage can be extremely beneficial to mental health as well as helping to alleviate some of the physical symptoms associated with stress and tension including back and neck stiffness and headaches.

By the end of the course you will know:

- The main areas of the body which hold on to stress and tension
- The best massage techniques for reducing stress
- How to perform the main massage techniques to reduce stress and aid relaxation
- A simple and effective stress reducing massage routine

How will I be taught?

All our tutors are professionally trained and keep up to date with their specialist subjects. Teaching methods will include lecture input, demonstration, discussion and time for questions and answers. Progress is monitored at all stages and special attention is paid to teaching the correct posture and pressure. Our complementary and beauty therapy courses are not intended as treatments, but as opportunities to learn. Our courses are open to both men and women, and where undressing is required, this is handled discreetly. If you have a disability and think it may affect your learning in the classroom, or using any of our other services, please speak to us in confidence as soon as possible. We will discuss options with you and do our best to provide the support you need.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students will need to bring; A small cushion for their head, a towel to protect clothing and hair band if hair is long. You may also wish to bring a notebook and pen.

Short nails help to perform massage movements. It may be necessary to remove earrings, chains and large rings.

What do I need to join the course

There are no pre requisites for this course. Anyone interested in complementary therapies or in learning these massage skills to use on family and friends are welcome. Students and therapists with some experience of other therapies who wish to learn new techniques may also find the course useful.
