An introduction to sports massage techniques in which you will learn the health and safety aspects of sports massage and a small sports massage routine. The day will involve pair work and some undressing of the upper body will be required, this will be handled sensitively to maintain students dignity. Students will have the opportunity to practise sports massage routines on themselves and others and will be made aware of the benefits of massage for those involved in sports.
By the end of the day, they will be able to perform a basic sports massage routine and will know the safety aspects of performing sports massage.
There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.
How will I be taught?
Some undressing is involved which is handled sensitively protecting students' modesty.
You will work in pairs to give and receive treatments.
Teaching methods will include demonstration, lecture input, discussion and time to practice what is being taught and for question and answer sessions. Our Complementary Therapy and healing workshop days are not intended as treatments in themselves.
Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensure that you achieve your full potential. The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where there will be opportunities to practise practical skills and ask questions throughout.

What do I need to bring with me?
• Towels - 1 large towel or a sarong for modesty; 1 large towel to cover the massage couch for your comfort and 1 large towel to cover yourself.
• Small cushion to support your head if desired
• Hair band or clip to keep hair off shoulders during massage
• Wet wipes to cleanse feet prior to massage
• Short nails would be preferable
• Notebook and pen
What can I do next?
To further massage courses with Kent Adult Education or other providers. Possible progression to the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
What do I need to join the course
No previous knowledge or experience is required. This sports massage introductory course is suitable for any adult who is interested in learning how to perform sports massage on themselves, family or friends to promote restoration of muscles following sports activities.
This course is not be suitable for pregnant women.
