This Mixed Media course is designed with the 2D artist in mind and the various mediums that can be incorporated into Art work. There will be between two and five projects each term that are introduced with clear instruction and demonstration with historical and contemporary references. Some projects will be realistic or representational and others using abstract or expressionism as a starting point. This course is comprehensive and sets out to be interesting and enjoyable with a supportive critique at the end of each project. You will use collage, water and oil based paints, charcoal and coloured pencils to create artwork throughout the course.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
What do I need to have with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A3 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.
You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please have them with you.

What do I need to join the course
All students are welcome on the course as the projects are differentiated for each student. Please contact one of the Arts team who will be able to make sure this is the right course for you.
It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
