This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. Students that enrol on this course will have access to the other Pilates classes delivered by Nicola Jefcoate.
Pilates is a form of body conditioning that focuses on strengthening and stretching the whole body. Pilates can help improve posture, muscular strength, mobility, flexibility and breathing techniques as well as help relieve tension and stress. A variety of exercises are performed whilst focusing on technique and control from the core muscles. Each class will start with a focused skills session, the theme of which will change each week.
Themes will include:
• Using core muscles effectively
• Practicing lateral breathing
• Practicing muscular strength and endurance exercises
• A working knowledge of how to improve standing posture
• A working knowledge of how to improve sitting posture
• Improving spinal mobility
• Improving balance
• Identifying how to work at a comfortable level depending on your own ability
By the end of this course students should be able to: Identify your core muscles and be able to use them in exercises; Put the essentials of good posture into practice in everyday life; Practice introductory Fundamental Pilates exercises; Have a working knowledge of some basic stretches that can be used at home as required to relieve everyday muscular tightness.
You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. Although there is no specific work set outside of the class, students will gain most benefit if exercises are performed regularly and practiced between classes.
Minimum and maximum numbers apply to enrolments in each class.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Partnership Tutor
How will I be taught?
These courses are taught by Nicola Jefcoate. Nicola is a qualified Level 3 Pilates tutor. After attending Pilates classes herself, Nicola no longer suffers with lower back pain nor restricted movement which had in the past interfered with normal daily life. Her own positive experiences with Pilates inspired Nicola to train to become a tutor.
Nicola will teach via demonstration, small group and individual exercises. You will receive personal feedback during each class. Your tutor will discuss your progress with you and give you further feedback as required. You will be encouraged to record your progress.
What do I need to have with me?
You will need comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement, preferably a T-shirt and soft trousers or leggings. Please don’t wear a black T shirt / top - to make it easier for your tutor to observe subtle body movements. A fleece may keep you snug when we relax. Denim jeans, formal trousers, short shorts, skirts or dresses are not suitable for this activity. You will be exercising in socks for hygiene reasons or bare feet if you have your own mat and small equipment. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately.
Please have a small hand towel and water available, as well as a mat to work on. Please avoid eating a large meal prior to exercising.
