This course is preparation for IELTS test and improve your academic writing. The test is not included and can be arranged by the student independently with tutor support.

Do you need to improve your academic writing for university or proof of your English level to study at university or for professional purposes?

This course will help you develop your essay writing and prepare for the IELTS Academic test, which is recognised as evidence of proficiency in English. The IELTS Academic test is suitable for entry to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, and also for professional registration purposes. It assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training in an environment where English language is used, and reflects some of the features of language used in academic study.

How will I be taught?

You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups or pairs. This allows the tutor to attend to individual needs as well as to direct the learning of the group as a whole. A variety of teaching strategies will be used. You will be expected to do homework/self-study: an average of 2 hours per week.

An individual learning plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor. The ILP will be regularly monitored and discussed with your tutor. Additionally, your work will be regularly marked by your tutor who will give you oral/written feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

English-English dictionary, ring binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen. You will need to have access to the Internet for your homework.
