This course is delivered from Elham Village Hall which is accessible and offers good parking facilities.
Learn a range of the basic techniques and processes of printmaking, e.g. monoprinting, collagraph, and lino printing. Students will be introduced to the concepts of image origination and transfer, preparation of the printing plate or block, the selection of papers and application of inks, and the use of the printing press. An experimental approach will be encouraged.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
Produce a basic image that can be develop as a print.
Transfer an image to a printing plate or block.
Select and use a range of printmaking tools, inks, papers.
Use the press to produce a print.
Work to health and safety guidelines
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Christopher Bone
Christopher Bone MA Fine Art. Chris established a studio in Folkestone in 1985 and has since developed a reputation as an accomplished painter, exhibiting regular in Kent and London. He teaches the principles and techniques of drawing and painting in all mediums, making reference to the history of art as appropriate.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own ‘shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
Please remember your mask to meet the Venue's COVID regulations requirement. You are required to wear your mask upon entering the building and walking through the public areas until you are seated in your room.
What can I do next?
Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the craft and also to support application to Access to Art and Degree Foundation courses or relevant Craft, Art and Design Degree courses.
What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome but it is advised that you have attended the Introduction to Printmaking or have some experience of printmaking.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
