Our Tai Chi classes are open to anyone who would like to improve their fitness and health and enjoys group exercise classes. This course is a mixed ability class and is suitable for people who have attended a beginners course, more experienced and advanced students.

You will learn and perform a variety of Tai Chi sequences and exercises aimed at improving muscle tone, strength and flexibility.

You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Explain the philosophy, history and terminology of Tai Chi
• Demonstrate the form using correct alignment
• Identify the benefits of regular Tai Chi practice
• Recount at least three ways in which Tai Chi can benefit health and wellbeing throughout various life stages.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner to find out whether this course is suitable for you.
- Do you ever have chest pain?
- Have you had any operations or injuries in the last year?
- Do you often feel faint or dizzy?
- Are you on long term medication?
- Do you have high or low blood pressure?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, back or knee problems?

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a qualified fitness instructor. Our teaching methods include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all exercises. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely. At the start of your course you will be asked to complete an Individual Learning Plan which includes your Initial Assessment of your own fitness levels and will be used by you and your tutors to reflect on and monitor your progress. Your tutor will also use this information to ensure that all of your personal goals are achieved and provide individual support where necessary. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete a Confidential Health Questionnaire. Your progress will be monitored through a Learning record and your own personal learning diary or fitness log.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please read the following information carefully. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately. You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Restrictive denim jeans, formal trousers, shorts, skirts or dresses are not suitable for this activity. Supportive boots or trainers are needed to support the feet and ankles. Outdoor sandals, high heeled shoes or occasion boots are not appropriate for these classes.
Please bring water and avoid eating one and a half hours prior to exercising.

What do I need to join the course

Following Public Health Coronavirus advice, this course will be delivered online and will resume in our fitness studio as soon as we are advised it’s safe to do so.

You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone.

To assist us in providing a safe and healthy environment for you to exercise you will be asked to complete an electronic Confidential Health Questionnaire.

Please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme. If you have a long term medical condition that limits your physical activity and not checked with a health professional, please do not participate in this class.

Our health questionnaire asks questions such as:

- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Back or Knee problems?
