Taking a local park walk, a garden or green space near home as inspiration, you will compile a ‘stitchbook’ sampler booklet. You will learn or revisit a variety of techniques in mixed media textiles, using simple stitching and collage methods in addition to drawing and painting. All materials are readily available and inexpensive, and the course is suitable for students of all ages and abilities.
Tuition and feedback will be equally balanced in our online sessions, lasting 1.5 hours each week.
The tutor Anne Kelly is an artist, and author of ‘Connected Cloth’ and ‘Textile Nature’. She plans to share with you during this short course her love of fabric and stitch.
How will I be taught?
Craft courses provide an opportunity for you to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, and one to one guidance to help you work out your ideas.
Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.
What do I need to have with me?
You will need:
Sharpie pens or inktense pencils
Nature ephemera – flowers and plants on paper and tissue, and fabric
Plants and leaves collected from your walk or green space
Plain tissue paper
A selection of plain and printed fabrics (small pieces and larger pieces
Plain fabric (i.e. cotton mix or calico) – small pieces – no larger than A4 size x 8
Scalpel and cutting mat
Ribbon or lace scraps - small buttons
Pritt/glue stick, small quantity PVA glue
Paper scissors and an A4 sheet cartridge paper
Printing blocks or rubber stamps that fit the plants and gardens theme
Acrylic or fabric paint (small amount) and small pieces of sponge
Sewing kit for hand stitching
Sewing machine and selection of sewing machine thread (optional)

What do I need to join the course
All students are welcome on this course with or without an Art or Craft background as the course will be assume no knowledge.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
