Have you got a scruffy old chair or stool that needs a facelift but an upholsterer is too expensive ! Why not learn how to transform your object into something beautiful by joining our upholstery course.
On this upholstery course you can learn a variety of traditional and modern upholstery techniques, using upholstery tools and materials. This is a practical upholstery course for students to develop skills and work on projects of their own choice. Starting with stripping back your chosen piece of furniture, then webbing it, stuffing it and finally giving it a new lease of life with a beautiful fabric and trim.
Demonstrations and guidance on techniques will be given throughout the course.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Use a web stretcher
Identify basic materials
Name and make two basic knots
Select the correct tack for an element of the project
Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. Students will be encouraged to look at the work of other craftspeople and artists, both contemporary and historical and keep a sketchbook/ notebook to record goals/ ideas, processes and progress. It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople. There will be one to one guidance, group critiques and self assessment. You will also receive verbal feedback from your tutor.
