Pilates is a form of body conditioning that builds core strength that concentrates on building strength from the core of the body. It can help improve posture, muscular strength, mobility and breathing technique. A variety of exercises are preformed, flowing smoothly form one to the other whilst focusing on technique and control, unlike many other body conditioning techniques. Pilates focuses on working with a mild engagement of the core muscles in order to be effective.

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Laura Turner
Laura is a qualified Pilates, Mindfulness and Meditation tutor with experience of teaching for Kent Adult Education and the private sector. Laura is committed to her continuous professional development and has completed several courses to ensure that her knowledge is kept current and up-to-date and build on her wide range of subject skills.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught by a qualified and experienced Pilates tutor. Teaching methods will include demonstration, explanation, discussion and times for question and answer sessions. Your tutor will demonstrate movements and talk you through all sequences. Activities will be adapted to suit individual needs and capabilities. You will be carefully observed to ensure that you are working safely and be encouraged to monitor and record your progression on the course.
Your tutor will discuss your progress with you and you will be encouraged to use a Fitness Log as part of an Individual Learning Plan.
What do I need to have with me?
Please read the following information carefully. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately. You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Denim jeans, formal trousers, skirt or dresses are not suitable for this activity. Most people practice Pilates in socks or bare feet. Students need to have a mat to work on and may wish to bring a towel. Please bring water and avoid eating one and half hours prior to exercising.
What can I do next?
Specialist advice is available from your tutor to help identify the next suitable course for you. Students can progress and achieve a deeper understanding by practising, continuing with future health and fitness classes and working with other teachers.
What do I need to join the course
This course is not suitable for beginners and so participants must have some experience having attended a previous course. At this level you will recap the basic technique and learn more challenging exercises.

If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in this class.
