How will I be taught?
Our art courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop, skills, techniques and to acquire an understanding the subject. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instructions, one to one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. This course will require the student, with assistance from their tutor, to complete an Individual Learning Plan. As a starting point all Creative ILPs contain the following Learning Outcomes:
- Successfully demonstrate techniques/skills relevant to the subject
- Competent application of techniques/skills
- Use work of others to inspire own work
- Demonstrate an understanding of Health and Safety relevant to the subject
These outcomes will be the base of all learning. Other, Personal Learning Outcomes can be negotiated with your tutor to better tailor the ILP to meet individual needs.
Students will need to look at the work of other artists both contemporary and historical and keep a sketchbook/notebook to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. It is important to note that art courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. Students will need to participate fully to get the most from the course.
One to one guidance, group critiques, self-assessment against individualised learning outcomes stated on the Individual Learning Plan.
What do I need to have with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
Some of our centres have their own ‘shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
