The tutor will aim to use a variety of methods including email, assignment setting and personal critique/assessment feedback. There may also be recorded and live video contact where appropriate and possible. You will be contacted and receive instructions once you have enrolled on the course.
This course allows students to develop skills and techniques and an understanding of watercolour. The course takes a methodical, structured approach to teaching the elements of painting and drawing, through projects that explore a particular aspect of technique or genre, step by step.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
• Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
• Demonstrate and understand relevant techniques .
• Demonstrate successful use of relevant tools, equipment and resources
• Use appropriate methods to collect ideas, research and experimentation
• Successfully review and evaluate your own work
• Research and evaluate the work of others to inform your own work and development
There is no set ‘homework’, but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.

What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

What do I need to join the course
Those with some experience of using watercolours are welcome to join this course. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
Students who have completed the Beginners course or have some experience. The course is also suitable for those who would also like to refresh their practice in this medium.
