Watercolour Landscape
Introduction to the techniques and methods used to create a watercolour landscape of distant mountains and near fields. Create atmospheric perspective in a landscape with the use of warm and cool washes. Make a graduated wash with textural marks in a foreground.

There is no set ‘homework’, but you are welcome to practice and do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Liam Thompson

Liam Thompson studied at Chelsea School of Art and the City and Guilds of London Art School. A frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition over three decades, he won the Royal Watercolour Society Young Watercolourist award and the travel award. He has exhibited in Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the London Societies. Paintings are in the National Trust South East region and Northern Ireland region collections, and the Ulster Television collection. Prints and paintings are in private collections in many countries around the world. Liam is a figurative artist who paints mainly in oils and watercolour. He has taught adults for over twenty years.

How will I be taught?

The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record your goals, ideas, processes and progress.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. You will need to provide your own materials. Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along to the first session anything you have already that you think will be useful.

What can I do next?

An improvers course or an advanced course.

What do I need to join the course

This course is suitable for beginners, the course is also suitable for those who would also like to refresh their practice in this medium. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
