About this course

This 'Computing - Next Steps' course in Canterbury will enable students to progress their computing skills.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

- Use a computer more confidently;
- Produce documents on Word;
- Produce spreadsheets on Excel and
- Use the Internet for interest and research.

There should also be an opportunity to look at an additional topic that is of interest to your group.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and support you in achieving your full potential.

The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, which will cater for your individual needs. Your starting point is recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets are set to help you develop your skills and reach your goals. These goals are revisited throughout the course so that you and your tutor can monitor and record your progress.

Your tutor will provide you with verbal feedback during the sessions. You will complete a learning plan designed to support you through the course.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need a pen, a notepad, a folder for keeping course materials and a USB memory stick so that you can practise and use documents you have produced at home.

You will ideally have access to a computer in order to practise outside class time (at home, at work or at the library).

** Please note: If you are storing any data/images on transferrable data devices (memory sticks, portable hard drives, etc.) please make sure that you have back-up files saved elsewhere and when removing devices have followed the 'safely removing hardware' guidelines on the PC. Some prior knowledge or experience of computing is required, such as attendance on the 'Start Computing' course.
