About this course

Have you always wanted to learn French? Do you want to be able to speak French at the basic level when you visit a France? Then this is the course for you. The French Beginners - Summer School course is classroom based. Exchanging face to face with your tutor and other students will help you consolidate, expand and develop your confidence in your knowledge of basic key phrases and vocabulary.
Topics and grammar covered at Beginners level will be reinforced. Students will also gain an insight into the culture.
By the end of the course successful students will be able to:
* give and receive personal information
* tell the time and use numbers
* order and pay for food and drink in a restaurant or cafe
* ask for and use directions
* make travel arrangements
* ask for repetition and check meaning ie. at the tourist office
You will be given small amounts of homework each week (max 1hr) to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self study.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited at the end of the course to monitor and record progress. The tutor will give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

The appropriate follow-on course is a Beginners Plus course. The tutor will be able to advise or please check our website at www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.

What do I need to join the course

This course is for students with no previous knowledge or those with a little basic knowledge or vocabulary who want to consolidate at a Beginners pace. If you are unsure, please carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk. The assessment provides a score to help you chose the best course for you.
