About this course

This Try Italian Conversation course aims to give you the opportunity to sample of the longer course that is about the consolidation of your knowledge of the language and culture through enjoyable and interesting interaction. A range of different topics will be introduced from everyday life and daily news using articles from TV, radio, internet and newspapers covering topics such as: education, environment, transport, science, sport, art, etc.

Suggestions and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the course. You will develop language accuracy and fluency in a range of everyday situations at a more complex level and increase your confidence in applying the present, past and future tenses.

By the end of the course you should be able to: - communicate on a wide range of topics and be able to extract detailed information from various sources (newspaper and magazine articles, telephone messages/conversations audio/visual resources) - deal with topics of a familiar/unfamiliar nature with the help of a dictionary. You will revise and expand previously studied grammar including present and past tenses (perfect/imperfect/pluperfect), future tense, conditional/subjunctive mood in set phrases, relative clauses and pronouns.

You will gain an insight into the culture of the country where the language is spoken.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening). Students may converse in pairs or groups, with participants of different levels and skills with the aim to encourage everyone to contribute and progress. Pronunciation is an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. These will be revisited at the end of the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will give verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students can bring a pen and paper but the aim is to practice speaking.
