About this course

The Dark Ages played a crucial part in shaping British History. The Dark Ages deserve shining a light on this less well-known Anglo-Saxon period extending from the fall of the Roman Empire to the Battle of Hastings in Britain.

By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Place the Dark Ages in the context of British History
• Name one or more features of the the life in the Dark Ages in Britain
• Describe and evaluate the achievements and legacy of the period

How will I be taught?

The course is classroom based. In the group, you will be encouraged asking questions, studying facts, working on ‘compare and contrast’ exercises, participating in informal group discussions lead by tutor. Your tutor will check progress with you and you will use your individual planning to record this.

About the Tutor: Richard Marsden

Richard has taught for Kent Adult Education for a number of years. He has an MA (Cantab) and a BA (Hons) in Modern and Medieval Languages. His mother is French and he has family connections in France and he also knows Latin. He is a keen amateur local historian with a particular interest in the traditional buildings of Kent.
