About this course

Are you interested in psychology and want to learn more about it? Then this Psychology - Introduction course in Tunbridge Wells is for you.

This course offers students the opportunity to investigate the key perspectives that underpin the field of psychology. Identifying the key assumptions of each perspective and applying them to everyday situations in order to gain a broad understanding of the reasons behind our behaviour. This course covers the cognitive, behaviourist, SLT, psychodynamic, evolutionary, biological and humanistic perspectives in psychology. There will be opportunities to discuss and compare key concepts, case studies and research methods and projects.

There is no additional work between course hours.

How will I be taught?

Our tutors are very experienced in their field, are trained to teach adults and are committed to ensuring that students enjoy their courses with Kent Adult Education. Each tutor strives to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere where students can work at an appropriate pace. Teaching methods are varied, and incorporate many styles including group work, pair work, some individual work and in some cases self study. This is an introductory course, so you are not expected to bring any knowledge, but we will be interested to find out how much you have gained from the course by the end.

What do I need to bring with me?

We advise students not to purchase equipment, books or materials until after the first session of the course unless otherwise stated but a pen, paper and a folder will be helpful along with a willingness to take part in discussions.

What can I do next?

The course would be a useful starting point for anyone considering studying Psychology at GCSE or AS level. You could continue with the Introductory courses to cover a breadth of topics in Psychology. Alternatively the understanding of the perspectives would lead to explanations of criminal behaviour in our Psychology and Crime course.
